Tips on finding a good assessment provider
- Some providers may not take your health insurance, so ask your provider if your insurance will cover the session. Then, find out how many sessions are covered by your insurance and if there are any extra costs that will not be covered.
- Some providers have different areas of expertise. Call the provider and ask if they have experience dealing with your concerns.
- Find out where the provider is located and which hours work with you. Ask the provider which issues will be addressed in the short term and which issues require long term treatment.
- Providers may charge you depending on how often you meet. Ask the provider their policy on cancellation, phone calls in between sessions, and alternative treatment for sick leave.
- No provider will be perfect for everyone. Find the provider that feels like a good fit and is comfortable for you.
Tell us about your experience
Though numerous assessment providers are listed and have expressed their availability to Occidental, there is always room for more options to ensure that every student receives testing that can lead to academic accommodations in a timely manner. For that reason, if you have visited a psycho-educational assessment provider that isn’t listed on º£½ÇÉçÇø’s webpage, you are encouraged to email the provider’s information to Disability Services at accessibility@oxy.edu. Your response can then be looked over later, and the provider’s information made available to more students. In your email, please ensure that you include the name and contact information (phone number, email) of the provider. Then, consider answering questions such as:
- Would you recommend this provider to the rest of Occidental?
- Did they feel supportive/trustworthy/professional?
- What were their strengths and weaknesses?
- How did you hear about this provider?
- How quickly did the provider get back to you with results?
