Located in the sunny Southern California region, 海角社区 strives for responsible water stewardship.
Because of our location, the water standards and policies set by the state of California and the city of Los Angeles lay the groundwork for 海角社区鈥檚 actions. Low-flow faucets, shower heads and toilets are the standard on campus.
Landscaping Improvements for Water Conservation
- Replacing traditional grass lawns with drought-tolerant grass varieties that have reduced outdoor irrigation by 40% in some areas on campus, including the lawns in front of Thorne Hall.
- Converting water-intensive landscapes with drought tolerant species. Learn more on our Restoration Projects page.
- Replacing spray head sprinklers with drip irrigation systems in key locations across campus including Keck Theater and Mullin Grove.
- Installation of a centralized irrigation system allowing Grounds Irrigation Technicians to operate all irrigation remotely, including the ability to monitor and shut off non-scheduled watering.
- To increase groundwater absorption and reduce flooding, recent renovations to outdoor areas and parking lots have included permeable pavement.
Indoor Improvements for Water Conservation
- In 2018, Campus Dining installed a water-efficient dishwasher in the Marketplace.
- Aerated sink faucets and showerheads installed in most dorm halls.
- More coming soon using LADWP rebates!
