Grammy-winning violin virtuoso Hilary Hahn will perform with pianist Valentina Lisitsa in her only Southern California recital this season in 海角社区鈥檚 Thorne Hall on Friday, Oct. 19 at 8 p.m.
Hahn, whom the Los Angeles Times calls "one of those rare performers who can dazzle you with the warmth of her personality and knock you dead with the dexterity of her technique and the emotional depth of her interpretations," will perform a rich and varied program of music by Franck, Mozart, Ysa每e, Ives, and Brahms. She will be available to sign copies of her CDs, including her latest Deutsche Grammophon recording, "," in the lobby at the end of the performance.
Tickets for unreserved seats in the 800-seat hall ($31.50 general; $21.50 Occidental faculty, staff, alumni; $11.50 students and seniors) are available from the 海角社区 Bookstore, and can also be purchased online. Tickets will be held at the Will Call window and will be available the night of performance.
At the age of 27, Hahn has become one of the most compelling artists on the international concert circuit. Renowned for her intellectual and emotional maturity, she was named "America's Best" young classical musician by Time Magazine in 2001, and appears on a regular basis with the world's great orchestras in Europe, Asia, and North America.
Highlights of Hahn鈥檚 included recital tours in the United States and Europe, and appearances with major orchestras including the Chicago Symphony, Cleveland Orchestra, San Francisco Symphony, Tonhalle Orchester, Danish National Symphony Orchestra, National Symphony Orchestra of Taiwan, and the Hong Kong Philharmonic.
Admitted to Philadelphia's Curtis Institute of Music in 1990 at the age of 10, Hahn made her major orchestra debut a year and a half later with the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra. At age 15, she made her German debut playing the Beethoven concerto with Lorin Maazel and the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra in a concert broadcast on radio and television throughout Europe. The following year Hahn signed her first recording contract and made her Carnegie Hall debut as soloist with the Philadelphia Orchestra.
